Postpartum

In our country the postpartum period is often overlooked. Mothers and Father's aren't granted much time off, if any after having a baby, the nuclear family doesn't afford the growing family much support or preparation for what lies ahead, plus our fast-paced society pushes women to just get up, start going, and get back to "normal" immediately after birth. To give you some contrast, in other countries like Denmark parents are given up to 52 weeks or one year of paid leave after birth, in Asian countries the mother-in -law will typically move in to help postpartum, and in Latin America there is heavy emphasis on the first forty days (aka the fourth trimester) as a time of rest and recovery.
The result of our societies misunderstanding of the postpartum period is leading to prolonged healing as well as alignments that are plaguing new moms like postpartum depression, anxiety, anger and health issues/ health imbalances well into motherhood.
Believe it or not this is impacting more than just the mother, but also, the husband, baby and other family members suffer as well. Mothers are central to the well-being of a family and when a mother isn't well whether it be physically, mentally or spiritually, the family unit suffers as a whole. Understanding the importance of the postpartum period and seeking proper help and support can make or break us in this very transitional season.
With proper support we are able to get the rest we need to recover fully to be able to show us as the mothers that God designed us to be.
